Predictions for Saturday, March 9th, 2013

Well, it's taken a few months, but I think I've finally figured out how they're choosing the two D2 teams to represent Florida in the postseason. I stress the word THINK.

With this weekend's final crossover games set, there is some movement that could happen, but is a little unlikely. It appears Naples will be the one seed, Boca the two, Orlando the three, and Krewe the four. Thus, Naples will play Boca, with the winner automatically reaching the postseason. The loser of that match would play the winner of Orlando/Krewe for the second spot in the postseason. Then, the top two seeds would play off for the right to stay at home in the South round of eight.

Phew. You got all that? Good. Now, on to this week's action:

Division 2 Tampa at Naples - This west coast matchup is normally an interesting one, but after last week's results and the fact Krewe have little to play for other than pride here, this could be 80 minutes of one-way traffic. Tampa got hammered at home by Boca last Saturday, while Naples put up 69 points (including 50 in the first half) against Orlando. Even Naples might well rest some guys again in the second half with the big contest against Boca coming up, it won't matter much. Naples 38, Tampa 10 Orlando at Boca - Boca still have an outside shot at catching Naples for the top spot, but that's highly unlikely to happen unless something very strange happens on the west coast. Meanwhile, Orlando are locked in the fourth spot and have no reason to risk any of their better players for 80 minutes in this contest. The Buccaneers should win this one handily, with the winning margin depending greatly on how strong of a team the Griffins bring down. Boca 45, Orlando 20 Daytona at Miami Tridents - A long trip to finish up the season for the Coconuts as two teams who showed potential at times but just couldn't put things together on a consistent basis meet in the 305. This game should be a nice, wide-open entertaining affair with plenty of scoring. Daytona 42, Tridents 35 Division 3 Indian River at Treasure Coast - Bless the boys at Indian River. They've given up an average of 79.4 points a game this season in the five games they actually played, yet they've stuck in there and fulfilled almost all of their commitments. While I certainly don't expect them to win this game, I'll pick them to win just as a show of respect for their efforts in 2012/13. Indian River 25, Treasure Coast 22 Last week (3/2/13): 5-1 (pending Mia/Jax result) Season: 47-16 (74.6%)
