Predictions for February 17, 2018

Due to the new format for D2, a decisive weekend is coming up that will determine the fate of a few teams for the rest of the season. Also, some tough games to predict in the D3 league, including the game between leaders, Gainesville and Palm Beach.

Boca Raton (2-0) vs Fort Lauderdale (2-2) - Boca are one of the two remaining undefeated D2 sides and will be looking for their second victory of the season against the Knights after winning 26-5 last month. Lauderdale, meanwhile, have had a roller coaster season with easy homes wins over Okapi and Orlando, but a forfeit loss when they failed to travel to Jacksonville. A third loss could put them on the brink of elimination with only three games remaining after this one. While Boca does have two massive road games against Tampa and Tridents coming up, I see them doing enough to move to 3-0. Boca Raton 28, Fort Lauderdale 13

Miami RFC (1-2) vs Miami Tridents (3-0) - It’s a shame the final 305 battle of the season is happening so early, but it is what it is. The black and yellow crew have scored 103 points in their last two games, but also allowed 87. Tridents haven’t looked quite as impressive as they did last season yet, but this could be a statement win with three potentiallt difficult games coming up against Jax on the road, Boca and Orlando. Miami Tridents 44, Miami RFC 17

Orlando (2-1) vs Okapi Wanderers (0-4) - Orlando will be looking to bounce back here after a terrible 47-17 road loss to FTL last week, and Okapi should provide an easy victory. Okapi are allowing 56.3 points a game and only reached double digits once. Orlando 52, Okapi 5

Tampa Krewe (2-1) vs Jacksonville (2-2) - First place in the North division is up for grabs here after both teams picked up impressive road wins last week with Krewe knocking off Naples and Jax dispatching Miami RFC. The first matchup between these two finished 42-36 in favor of Krewe, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar score here. Tampa Krewe 34, Jacksonville 30

D3

Sarasota (0-2) vs  Brevard (1-1) - Two teams who can’t afford another loss meet up on the west coast. Sarasota, normally a final four sure thing, have opened with bad losses to powerhouses Gainesville and Palm Beach. Brevard, meanwhile, fell on the road at Pelis to open the season before dispatching Indian River easily. I think the Surge will be just desperate enough to sneak a victory. Sarasota 25, Brevard 20

Daytona (0-1) vs Bay Area Pelicans (1-0) - The Coconuts, heavily defeated by Gainesville in their opener, look to get things back on track with a home tilt against the Pelis, who have probably the easiest opening three games of any of the D3 sides. A nice win over Brevard last week set the west coast team up for a nice start to the season, which they'll need to get with their final three games against Sarasota, Palm Beach and Gainesville. Hoping the Pelis travel well enough to pick up the win here, but it could be tight. Bay Area Pelicans 19, Daytona 17

Gainesville (3-0) vs Palm Beach (2-0) - For me, the best game of the week by a mile, and a likely preview of the state final. Gainesville have romped through their first half of the season, averaging 43 points, while allowing an average of only six. Palm Beach also haven't had any kind of resistance, smashing Indian River and then Sarasota. Problem for them is, I can't remember the last time Gainesville lost a matrix game at home, and I don't see it happening just yet. Gainesville 29, Palm Beach 26

Women

Tampa Krewe (0-3) vs Jacksonville (3-0) - Even facing a decent road trip here, Jax shouldn't have any trouble with this one, even if they might be looking ahead to next week's monster game against Orlando. If they win that one, a state championship berth is pretty much assured. Jacksonville 74, Tampa 5

Fort Miami (3-0) vs Indian River (0-3) - Fort Miami won't be happy after getting only a 20-0 win over Tampa last week thanks to a forfeit, and poor Indian River will be on the receiving end of their frustration. Fort Miami 104, Indian River 0
