Updated on 9/5/2012 4:04:32 PM

Tell us a little about yourself: age, place of birth, current occupation.

—DOB May 8, 1960 - doing the math – 52 Newburgh, NY Staff Trial Counsel for USAA

What is you background as a rugby player?

—I played with the Tulane Rugby Club in New Orleans, LA while in law school from 1984 through 1987. I took a couple of year break, due to a broken cheek, and returned to the game with the Mid Hudson Mad Dogs from the Mid-Hudson Valley in New York. In 1993 I returned to S. Florida and joined the Fort Lauderdale Knights. Within a few years I was a referee.

Why did you decide to become a referee?

—The game had given a lot to me and I wanted to give something back. In addition I played the game with ‘a lack of talent’, and did not have a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to give to the game.

Did you have some kind of mentor?

—Terry Day

Do you remember your first game as a referee? How did it go? Any funny or special memory?

—My first game as a referee was the 3rd place game at the Florida Cup hosted by the Space Coast Club. I had spent the party the night before talking with Terry and letting him know I was considering becoming a referee. After an hour he told me that I knew enough about the game, lent me a whistle and assigned me the 9 AM game.

What was the most memorable screw up?

—No need to recall any of those

Which is the one game you most remember of your career?

—Usually the last one

How well do players and coaches in Florida know the laws of the game?

What is your opinion in general of the attitude of players towards the referees in Florida?

As a referee, have you made more friends or foes?

Does being able to watch a game on video help you improve your skills?

What are the most rewardings aspects of being a referee? And the least?

—It is good to still be part of the game

If you have had the opportunity to ref a match oversees, how was that experience?

—Very enjoyable

What would you tell a player to encourage him becoming a referee?

—The best thing about playing rugby is there is only one referee. The best thing about being a rugby referee is there is only ONE referee

Any final thoughts or comments about being a rugby referee?

—The best thing about playing rugby is there is only one referee. The best thing about being a rugby referee is there is only ONE referee
