Rugby clubs from across the State of Florida are preparing for the All Florida Weekend tournament this Saturday and Sunday in Tavares, Florida. The event will take place at Hickory Point State Park, which is located at 27341 State Road 19, Tavares, Florida 32778.
All senior-level men’s (Division II and III), women’s, and collegiate level clubs from across the State of Florida have been invited to this event. All Florida Weekend is an annual rugby tournament organized by the Florida Rugby Union.
Commentary from local clubs as the prepare for All Florida Weekend
When the Tampa Bay Rugby Examiner spoke to the Tampa Bay Krewe’s Club President Jeff Herron on Thursday afternoon, he said his Division II team will be bringing over 30 players to Tavares.
Jason Ross, Club President for the University of Central Florida (UCF), informed the Tampa Bay Rugby Examiner on Thursday evening his team’s first match will be against the University of Florida (UF) at 9 a.m. Ross confirms that UCF will play the University of South Florida (USF) at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Keith Hopkins and Kenneth Dunne of the Naples Hammerheads have confirmed with the Tampa Bay Rugby Examiner their club will be bringing a formidable side to Tavares this weekend.
A senior member of another local rugby club, the Sarasota Saracens, has informed the Tampa Bay Rugby Examiner his Division III club will play its first match against the Brevard Old Red Eye Rugby Club at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Ken Simmons explains how clubs will compete for the Florida Cup
According to Ken Simmons, who is organizing the event, every club in both Division II and III will play two games on Saturday. On Sunday, there will be two semi-final matches and a finals match for each division.
In Division II, the top four will play for the Florida Cup, teams five and six will play for the plate, and teams seven and eight will compete for the shield.
In Division III, teams one through four will play for the Florida Cup, teams five through eight will play for the plate, and teams nine and ten will play for the shield.
Teams that are traveling to Tavares
Division II clubs participating in All Florida Day include the Tampa Bay Krewe Rugby Football Club (RFC), the Orlando RFC, the St. Petersburg Pelicans RFC, the Boca Raton RFC, the Naples Hammerheads RFC, the Miami Tridents RFC, and the Daytona Beach RFC.
Division III clubs traveling to the tournament include the Sarasota Saracens, the Brevard Old Red Eyes, and the Gainesville Hogs.
Local collegiate men’s clubs participating in the event include the University of South Florida (USF), the University of Central Florida (UCF), the University of Florida (UF), and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU).
Collegiate women’s clubs from around central areas of Florida taking part in All Florida Day include USF, UCF, and UF.
