Serevi Rugby’s progression-based Training Camps focus on core rugby skills and are designed to develop players quickly over a the course of the camp. Players are segmented based on age and ability to ensure that everyone is appropriately challenged while coaches aim to help players execute core skills consistently under increasing amounts of game-like pressure. Focus areas include core rugby sevens skills, spatial awareness, attacking and defensive strategy and decision-making.
"With rugby sevens becoming an Olympic sport in 2016, our camp is designed to teach local players the skills and techniques they need to succeed in a fun and exciting Olympic sport," said Haigh. "The years of on-field experience brought by myself and Aaron ensure this camp will provide the best in today’s rugby sevens training techniques."
The camp’s early registration rate is $40 for the day if players register by Friday, April 30th. Player’s fee includes 5 hours of instruction, camp t-shirt, cleat bag, and wristbands. Now in its third year, Serevi Rugby continues to evolve its skills and coaching programming to create a beginner to Olympian pathway. At the beginner end, this means working with partners to introduce rugby to a new and much wider group of children and then steering them to clubs and high school teams. At the upper end, it means operating Olympic Development Academies in partnership with USA Rugby in Chicago, Seattle, and San Diego. Throughout, it means working with coaches to build technical skills and coaching knowledge.
Rugby sevens will debut at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro as a full Olympic sport, opening the door to thousands of dynamic athletes across the country to utilize the skills they’ve built in other sports to play for their country. Programs such as Serevi Rugby’s Olympic Development Program are working closely with the U.S. Rugby Sevens National Team to identify and develop emerging, high-potential rugby athletes from across the country.
