Get a jump start on the competition
Is the winter weather putting a cramp in your rugby training goals? Would you like to get a jumpstart on the 2013 rugby season? Attend the 2013 U-19 Rugger Fest in sunny Florida! The U-19 Rugger Fest is more than a tournament. It’s a weekend of rugby designed to give your club a head start in preparing for your competitive season. Rugger Fest provides you with great weather and facilities to train and the opportunity to play games with other high school/U-19 teams.
The Rugby Classic will be held Friday, January 18th, through Sunday, January 20th, at beautiful Simmers Young Park in Winter Haven, Florida. The average January temperature in Winter Haven is a high/low of 73/52. The winter is the dry season in Central Florida so bring your sun screen!
Simmers Young Park is a beautiful facility featuring 12 full size rugby pitches that are only a few years old. The photo below is typical of the pitches at Simmers Young Park. All playing surfaces are covered in lush Bermuda grass.
Plan to arrive on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Friday is a training day. Each team will have access to the grounds to run practices. Additionally, optional clinics will be held on Friday for players and coaches featuring USA Rugby certified curriculum and instructors.
Play some interesting preseason rugby
Each team will play at least 2 games on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. It’s also an opportunity for players and coaches to meet other rugby players from around the country to participate in the tradition of rugby fellowship. The fellowship aspect will be featured on Saturday evening when we all attend the Rugger Fest Barbeque which is provided at no additional charge to all coaches, players and referees.
If you are driving down for the weekend, the address of Simmers Young Park is: 5630 W. CR 542, Winter Haven, FL, 33880. If you plan to fly down, either Tampa International Airport or Orlando International Airport will be your best options. Winter Haven is midway between Orlando and Tampa. Both airports are easy to get in and out of and both offer a full variety of rental car companies for your ground transportation needs.
The Winter Haven area has many hotels to accommodate your club. A complete list will be provided with rates. Winter Haven is a short drive to major theme parks such as Disney World, Epcot, Universal, Islands of Adventure, and Busch Gardens. Since Monday, January 21st is the Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday, you may want to stick around after Rugger Fest to enjoy a theme park or one of Central Florida’s beautiful beaches.
Make your plans to attend now!
With almost 5 months of planning time, you can organize your trip without the pressure of last minute planning. Rugger Fest organizers will be happy to assist you in every way possible.
