About Southern Conference Rugby Championship

Montgomery, Ala. (March 7, 2016) – The YMCA of Greater Montgomery and the Montgomery Yellowhammers Rugby Football Club will host the Southern Conference Rugby Championships on April 30 and May 1. The event will host top 12 men's and women's clubs in the south.
The Southern Conference is comprised of four geographical unions (True South, Georgia, Florida, and Carolinas) in states extending from Louisiana to North Carolina. Each of the four unions send their Division 2 and Division 3 men's champion as well as their Division 2 women's champion. The Southern Conference champion from each division advance to the USA Rugby East Regionals in Pittsburgh on May 21.

On behalf of the True South Rugby Union, I congratulate the Montgomery Yellowhammers Rugby Club for securing a first class facility for the Southern Conference finals in April. The YMCA of Greater Montgomery's Soccer Facility features championship fields, stadium seating, locker rooms, concessions and all the amenities necessary for teams and their supporters,” stated Peter L. Steyn, President of the True South Rugby Union.
“I am con fident that the Yellowhammers together with the YMCA will showcase some of our best players and provide a fabulous weekend for all attendees.”
The event will feature roughly 300 of the south's top rugby athletes in fierce competition in an effort to reach USA Rugby's National Championship in Glendale, Colorado.
“This event will be an excellent showcase for the sport of Rugby in an area where many do not know it exists. With Rugby being re-introduced in next Summer's Olympic Games in Rio, this is a great opportunity for the people of Central Alabama to watch some great rugby and be exposed to the fast-paced action impressive growth of the sport,” said Chris Ivey, President of the Montgomery Yellowhammers Rugby Club.
The action begins with semi-final action on April 30 and concludes with each division's championships on May 1. For more information, visit the Montgomery Yellowhammers' website at www.RugbyClub.org
