About Tryout camp for the USA Rugby South U22 |
|
Dear Coaches, Administrators, Players, and Parents;
The Rugby Academy of America and the USA Rugby South would again like to extend an invitation to all High School, College and players 22 years old and younger to attend the upcoming tryout camp for the USA Rugby South and the Rugby Academy of America. After a small break, we are expanding at a great pace and are welcoming all ages to participate. The Florida Camp will be held next Sunday, September 22, 2013 in Orlando at the Spirit Fields on the UCF Campus from 10:00am -3:00pm. The Georgia camp in Atlanta, held yesterday, was a great success with players chosen from Emory Univ, UGA, Georgia Tech, UNCC, Arkansas State and Life Univ, with many more players coming from all levels of high school, college and men's clubs.
This camp is an opportunity for all players to be evaluated and observed by some of the top coaches in the South as well as possibly selected to go on to the next level of selections in Georgia on October 19-20, 2013 for selection to the USA South Under 22 side. These tryouts are open to all and selections will be made as fairly as possible based solely on the player’s performance without consideration of club affiliation or past experience. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend including parents, administrators and coaches.
These camps are a springboard for many more opportunities that will be upcoming in the near future including high level games domestically and internationally including Caribbean and South American tours. We will also be using these five camps, held throughout the South through the month of September, to create a database of players interested in playing higher levels of rugby and to include those players in monthly practices, camps and clinics that will be held throughout the year with top international coaches and players from countries such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Wales and France.
There has been discussion of whether eligibility will be compromised and we understand your concerns. We would certainly not put any player in jeopardy of losing their opportunities to play with their respective teams and clubs and will match up groups and games with age appropriate competition to ensure that this would never happen.
The Rugby Academy expansion will be including in the future, Boys and Girls Under 19, Boys and Girls Under 22, and Men and Women’s Select Sides, to represent both the Rugby Academy and the current 2013 NACRA Champions, USA Rugby South. It was just announced this weekend that USA Rugby South has been granted permission to defend their title next year. The Men’s teams, including a U-19 team, are going to be selected soon. Both programs are well represented with top college, Men’s and Women’s coaches throughout the South regions, including past National and Regional Selectors and Coaches. The final U22 Team selected already has multiple games scheduled to be played by the end of this year and next year as well. Many of these U22 players will have the opportunity to step up to play at the Men's level in the NACRA Tournament beginning 2014.
Please pass this information on to your teams and players. We look forward to seeing all of you in the near future and in Orlando next week. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Yours in Rugby,
Sean Borman
